Groenier, James Scott. 2006. Accessible Gate Latch. 0623 2331P. Missoula, MT: U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service, National Technology and Development Program. 6 p.
This tech tip describes a new gate latch that meets the Federal accessibility requirements. The latch would allow people with disabilities to open a gate with less than 5 pounds of force using one hand, without twisting the wrist or pinching or grasping the controls. The Missoula Technology and Development Center worked with Loyd Beaver of the Hamilton Hinge Co. to modify the company's ring latch so that it would be accessible.
