Appendix C: GLEES Macroinvertebrates

This Appendix identifies macroinvertebrate species found in streams and lakes at GLEES during a preliminary qualitative survey conducted in the summer of 1988 by Dr. Boris Kondratieff. The littoral zones of each lake and each stream were sampled by hand-picking and with a triangle net. Insect voucher specimens are maintained in the Gillette Entomological Museum at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO.

Appendix B: Phytoplankton Species

The species included in this list were collected from Lost Lake (L) and East Glacier Lake (EG) and West Glacier Lake (WGL) and identified by Richard Dufford, Phychologist, in 1988. The collection is maintained by Mr. Dufford in Fort Collins, Colorado. Samples were collected as an integrated sample from a water column at the deepest section of the lake.

Appendix A: Vascular Plants of GLEES

This appendix provides a list of 230 vascular plant taxa that were field identified and/or collected over the period 1986-1990. Field identification was done by C.L. Simmons in 1986-87 (see Chapter 2). Subsequent taxa were field identified, collected, and verified by J.D. Haines and C.M. Regan in 1988-90. Voucher specimens were verified by taxonomists at the Rocky Mountain Herbarium.

Air quality is monitored continuously at GLEES. Air pollutants are considered an important component of the atmosphere that can have an effect on terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. Atmospheric deposition of gases, wet deposition of chemicals in precipitation including snow and rain, and dry deposition of chemicals are all monitored at GLEES. Although GLEES is a relatively remote and unpolluted site, deposition of pollutants can be important.

The U.S. North - the 20 states bounded by Maine, Maryland, Missouri, and Minnesota - have a greater forest cover (42 percent of land area) and population density (194 people per square mile) than other large regions of the nation. Ecological, social, and economic changes anticipated over the next 50 years will profoundly affect future forest management needs and opportunities in the North.

Coram Experimental Forest 15 minute streamflow data (2nd Edition)

This data publication contains average streamflow data reported every 15 minutes for two flumes, Abbot Creek and Lunch Fork, in the Coram Experimental Forest from October 2004 to present. The Abbot Creek flume is located approximately 200 meters downstream from the spring-fed source of Abbot Creek. The Lunch Fork flume is located on the Lunch Fork of Abbot Creek just above the confluence of Abbot Creek and the Lunch Fork.

Extending WEPP technology to predict fine sediment and phosphorus delivery from forested hillslopes

Tenderfoot Creek Experimental Forest 15 minute streamflow data: 2000-2009

This data publication contains 15 minute stream flow rates (cubic feet per second) for 11 flumes in the upper Tenderfoot Creek watershed from 2000 to 2009. Two sub watersheds: Sun Creek and Spring Park Creek had experimental shelterwood harvests in 1999 and 2000. Portions of these units were prescribed burned between 2001 and 2003. Two adjacent subwatersheds: Bubbling Creek and Stringer Creek serve as controls.

Tenderfoot Creek Experimental Forest stream sediment collection: 1994-2009

This data publication contains daily average sediment transport data for several creeks in the Tenderfoot Creek Experimental Forest watershed from 1994 to 2009. Sediment data were collected at eight sites in the upper Tenderfoot Creek watershed. Four samplers were placed at the bottom of four sub-watersheds flowing into Tenderfoot Creek.
