Forest Service scientists provide science and technology that recreation and wilderness managers can use to balance the demand by people for recreation and rejuvenation from the outdoors with the need to sustain healthy ecosystems. This focus area explores the role of wilderness as a setting for measuring and conveying ecosystem services and as a benchmark for tracking ecosystem and human change.
