Restrictions & Closures

The Regional Forester and Forest Supervisors may issue orders that restrict or close certain areas for several reasons: fire activity, wildlife safety or unsafe conditions. Please check the individual Forest or Grassland's Web site for specific information.

National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) - The National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) in Boise, Idaho is the nation's support center for wildland firefighting.
Geospatial Multi-Agency Coordination (GeoMAC) - The Geospatial Multi-Agency Coordination Group is an internet-based mapping application originally designed for fire managers to access online maps of current fire locations. These maps are now available to the general public.

When Stage 1 fire restrictions are in effect, campfires and charcoal barbeques are allowed ONLY in designated fire grills in Forest Service-developed campgrounds. If you are camping outside of a developed campground, called dispersed camping, during Stage 1 fire restrictions, no open fires are allowed. You may use ONLY propane or white gas stoves.
