Jeffrey V. Ojala

M.S. candidate

University of Masschusetts, Amherst
jvojala@forwild.umass.edu

Jeff is currently part of the team of researchers examining the restoration of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) to West Brook, a tributary of the Connecticut River drainage. His work will construct a database of invertebrate composition and biomass. Furthermore, Jeff's research will examine relationship between seasonal variation in food availability and salmonid growth opportunity. This body of work will aid in the understanding of salmonid growth and the implications for restoration and stocking efforts.

CURRENT PROJECTS

  • Cooperative efforts with the S.O. Conte Anadromous Fish Lab's ecology section
  • Seasonal variation in feeding and growth of salmonid fish
  • Riverine and riparian responses to alterations in flow regime
  • Aquatic invertebrate bioassessment metrics
  • Ecological implications downstream of dam removal
