MINNESOTA – Superior National Forest has received an “Above and Beyond Award” from the Minnesota Office of Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve program. The award, presented during a May 6 ceremony in Bloomington, Minnesota, recognizes employers from across the state for outstanding support of employees who are also military service members. Superior National Forest was selected from among more than 300 Patriot Award winners and 50 Freedom Award submissions in Minnesota this year
The ESGR, a Department of Defense program, enhances coordination between employers and service members. State offices of ESGR provide training and support to both service members and employers on their rights and responsibilities according to US laws and regulations.
The ESGR program was established in 1972 to “gain and maintain employer support for Guard and Reserve members”. Together with Headquarters ESGR staff and a small cadre of support staff for each State Committee, volunteers work to promote and enhance employer support for military service in the Guard and Reserve.
Annually, the ESGR program honors employers who go that extra mile to support their Guard and Reserve employees. The program receives thousands of nominations but only a small percentage of organizations that employ Guard and Reserve members are honored at the banquet each year in Minnesota.
“It is an honor to be recognized with this award and a privilege to support employees who choose to serve their country not only in our agency mission but also through the military.” Says Connie Cummins, Superior National Forest Supervisor.
Several employees on the Superior National Forest currently serve in the Army National Guard, Air National Guard, Army Reserve and Navy Reserve.
