NEW MEXICO — The annual Society of American Foresters Convention took place in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Nov. 15–19.
During the convention, the Forest Service hosted the annual SAF hiring event. More than 100 natural resources, forestry and forestry technician positions across the country were recruited for using the Pathways intern and recent graduate program. Conference attendees had the opportunity to apply and interview on-site. Prior to the event, applications were accepted online. A total of 180 applicants applied at the convention and 2,001 applicants applied online.
All applications were reviewed by Human Resources Management to determine eligibility and qualifications. Additionally, more than 100 Forest Service employees from a wide range of professional backgrounds provided assistance. More than 650 online applicants were interviewed via Skype, and 180 individuals were interviewed in person.
A strategic recruitment plan was developed and implemented to drive applicants to the hiring event. The National Collective Recruitment and Hiring Team relied on the expertise and relationships built by a Forest Service-wide network of outreach and recruitment professionals known as the National Talent Acquisition Network.
Selections for the SAF hiring event will be made December 6–8. New hires are expected to on-board as early as January 2018.
