Yesterday I had the opportunity to testify before the Conservation and Forestry Subcommittee in a hearing on infrastructure on National Forest System lands. I spoke from the perspective I gained listening to employees who are struggling with deferred maintenance of infrastructure and the negative impacts that has for communities and the land.
I believe much progress has been made to move the Forest Service into the larger national infrastructure discussion since the last time I testified on this subject. The committee showed strong bipartisan support for our efforts to reduce our infrastructure backlog. They recognized the size and impact of the backlog of maintenance and how that affects our ability to properly manage the nation’s forests and grasslands.
