It’s been a long couple of weeks for all of us at the Forest Service. We’ve had to face some hard truths about allegations of harassment and retaliation in our agency, even as we stare down some of the biggest land management challenges in our nation’s history.
I know we are up to the task. Looking at this agency, I see strong, courageous and forward-thinking people willing to stand up for their colleagues and themselves. I want you to know that I stand with you, and we will continue to take meaningful steps to ensure our Forest Service is a safe and rewarding workplace for everyone.
We have a lot of hard work ahead of us. I’m confident that together, we can deliver on our agency’s promise to the American people.
For more than 100 years, the Forest Service has endured and overcome countless challenges. As Gifford Pinchot once said, “The vast possibilities of our great future will become realities only if we make ourselves responsible for that future.” Only by ensuring the safety of each and every one of us will we live up to that legacy. I know that we can.
