2019 Pride month: Honoring Our Roots, Growing Our Future

June 7th, 2019 at 10:58AM

June is celebrated as LGBT Pride Month across our nation. Yesterday, USDA held its LGBTQ+ Pride observance with the theme “Honoring Our Roots, Growing Our Future.”

On Thursday, Associate Chief Lenise Lago spoke at USDA’s Pride Month celebration in Jefferson Auditorium in Washington, D.C. She shared a story from early in her career about a supervisor who created an inclusive work environment and, in the process, exemplified the Forest Service values of diversity and interdependence. Watch her remarks below and take some time to reflect on how she understands these two values: “Diversity is recognizing the inherent value of every person. Interdependence says we need each other.”
