Forest products modernization team solicits partner feedback

Friday, September 14, 2018 - 07:30

WASHINGTON, DC—Members of the Forest Products Modernization team met with partners Sept. 11 to discuss how the Forest Service can streamline its business practices to strengthen forest restoration efforts and improve the delivery of forest products. Forest Products Modernization is an overarching Forest Service effort to better train its employees, reform policy, increase use of technology and adjust processes to increase the pace and scale of restoration, improve forest conditions and improve efficiency of forest products delivery.

In partnership with the National Forest Foundation, the modernization team is holding a series of forest products modernization partner feedback sessions across the country designed to enable two-way discussion and exploration between the Forest Service and our partners and stakeholders. These sessions are being presented virtually with satellite locations at select Forest Service units. During the sessions, the Forest Service team is sharing preliminary solution ideas and actions underway related to timber sale contracting and permitting, appraisals, sale layout and scaling and accountability, among other topics.

The modernization team will also be holding two internal webinars for employees this fall to collect feedback on these efforts. More information can be found on the Forest Products Modernization website and on the Forest Products Modernization SharePoint site.
