WASHINGTON, D.C.—The National New Leader Program is designed to develop future Forest Service leaders through leadership assessments, experiential learning, and individual development opportunities. The program supports the agency's leadership succession planning efforts and is a competency-based leadership development program with emphasis on Leading Self. This intensive six-month program provides participants with solid training and a developmental foundation in leadership skills and team building enhanced by agency developmental experiences.
The target audience is highly motivated, permanent full-time GS-7 to GS-11 employees with at least one year of service.
The Training and Employee Development Branch will offer two six-month programs, providing there are sufficient applications. Due to the furlough, the dates for cohort three have changed and the orientation is now scheduled for June 3–7, 2019, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The dates for cohort four are unchanged and orientation is scheduled for May 6–10, 2019, in Albuquerque. Each cohort will have two more residential sessions in Albuquerque.
Interested employees must contact their unit points of contact for internal procedures and due dates. The National Reply Due from unit points of contact has been extended to March 1, 2019, but internal unit deadlines are sooner, many in mid-February. Those who have applied do not need to reapply but should communicate any status changes to their unit points of contact.
