Aerial Ignition Home > Plastic Sphere Dispenser > Equipment > PREMO MK III Operational Manual > Aerial Ignition Device Aerial Ignition Device (Sphere), 1-hA spherical container, 32 mm (1.25 in.) in diameter, consisting of approximately 3.0 grams of potassium permanganate. The rate of chemical reaction is dependent on the particle size and concentration of the chemicals involved. When the sphere is injected with common antifreeze (ethylene glycol) combustion occurs within approximately 20 seconds. All sphere shipping cases are labeled with the recommended percentage of glycol solution needed to obtain the desired time delay. (Ex. 9) CAUTION! Dangerous compounds that must be isolated from potassium permanganate during shipping and storage are: Arsenic or antimony, glycerol, phosphorous, sulphur, sulphuric acid, hydrogen peroxide, aluminum carbide, titanium, hydrogen trisulphide and ethylene glycol.
