Welcome to the Forest Service Wildland Waters
This publication highlights news, views, and current technological and public policy information on local, national, and international water issues. Each edition is devoted to a single topic with the intent of promoting understanding of and developing collaborative solutions to water issues.
In this issue, science writer Mary Carr introduces us to the role of forests as living laboratories. Located in protected settings across the country, the USDA Forest Service experimental forests are key sources of long-term water information. Research conducted in watersheds on these experimental forests has yielded important, and sometimes, surprising scientific insight. This issue provides the history of these living laboratories and thoughts on their future.
We welcome comments and suggestions for future editions. Comments or questions should be directed to Karen Solari at 202-205-1274 or email.
