Description: The National Grasslands Visitor Center is located at 708 Main Street in Wall, South Dakota, which is two blocks south of the world-famous Wall Drug Store. In the Visitor Center are displays of grassland’s wildlife and plants, grazing management, and history of the 20 National Grasslands and the Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie. The Visitor Center also has a theater, an exhibit room, restrooms, and a sales area. A Junior Ranger program is available to all visitors.
- Winter hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (MT) Monday through Friday.
- Summer hours (Memorial Day through Labor Day) are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (MDT) daily.
Viewing Information: Outside the Visitor Center is a natural mixed-grass prairie landscape. In addition to the grasses, shrubs, and trees are wildflowers, such as upright prairie coneflower (Ratibida columnifera), western yarrow (Achillea millefolium), false boneset (Kuhnia eupatatoroides), annual sunflower (Helianthus annuus), purple coneflower (Echinacea angustifolia), heath aster (Aster ericoides), and soapweed (Yucca glauca).
Safety First: The strees in Wall can be very busy, especially during summer. Please take extra care in crossing the streets.
Directions: Whether traveling from the East or West, signs on I-90 direct visitors to Exit 110. Once visitors turn north from I-90, turn left (west) on South Boulevard and follow the National Grasslands Visitor Center signs to Main Street. Turn right (north) on Main Street to the National Grasslands Visitor Center.
