- Habitat loss from conversion of to cropland and pasture, as well as drainage and development
- Fire suppression and woody vegetation encroachment
- Impacts to pollinator (hawkmoth) populations from pesticides and habitat loss
- Competition from non-native plant species such as purple loosestrife and reed canary grass
- Collecting for science and horticulture
