Threats
- Loss of alteration of habitat by timber harvest activities, such as alteration of the hydrologic regime and increased siltation of wetlands
- Livestock use of howellia wetlands
- Invasion by non-native plant species, especially reed canary grass
- Outright conversion of wetland habitat to other uses by draining, diking, and damming
- Urban development
- Lack of genetic variation
- Climate change leading to changes in seasonal wetland inundation patterns
