Threats
- Habitat loss and degradation from construction of roads, dams, and railroads
- Plant damage or death from herbivory by deer, sheep, goats, and invertebrates
- Localized environmental catastrophes such as fungal blight, drought, or insect Infestations, because of its small populations on specialized habitat
- Reproductive failure caused by drought
- Death of pollinators from pesticide treatment to kill gypsy moths
- Over-collection by botanists
