Partnerships
Partnerships are developed to address the need to focus attention and resources on forest and community health. The US Forest Service's State and Private Forestry Economic Action Programs facilitate this process.
- Four Corners Sustainable Forest Partnership - this initiative aims to encourage forest restoration, maintenance, and risk reduction through sustainable, community-based forest enterprises.
- Sustainable Northwest - addressing the need for solutions to the environmental, economic and social challenges faced in the Pacific Northwest.
- Healthy Forests, Healthy Communities Partnership - their goal is to create an effective, self-supporting organization that provides service and builds rural capacity to produce and market products that benefit both entrepreneurs and forest ecosystems.
- The Ponderosa Pine Forest Partnership: Forging new relationships to restore a forest, A case study - this link leads to Adobe Acrobat Reader version of the report. This paper describes the PPFP, examines significant features emerging from interactions and activities, and suggests directions that community-based forestry projects are moving and how they could benefit.
- Central Oregon Partnerships for Wildfire Risk Reduction (COPWRR) - building partnerships to restore and sustain Central Oregon forests and communities.
- Routt Divide Blowdown - the Medicine Bow Routt National Forest is using a creative approach to collaborate with the public and other agencies to address planning and monitoring of a large scale blowdown event. The approach involves creating a "Bark Beetle Task Force" of interested public, agency, industry or Forest Service permittees to share information and work together to address the risk associated with spruce beetle.
- The Sierra Nevada Framework for Conservation and Collaboration - integrating science into natural resource management through improved cooperation among tribes, local governments, state and federal agencies. - Grand Canyon Forest Partnership - dedicated to researching and demonstrating approaches to forest ecosystem restoration
- Partnership for a Sustainable Methow - founded by a group of citizens to encourage and support sustainable economic development in the Methow Valley through activities that preserve the rural environment and quality of life
- Little Colorado Resource Conservation & Development Area - a grassroots non-profit organization whose leadership comes from sponsors like local & tribal governments. The service area includes the four-corners region of Arizona and New Mexico. It was organized in 1971 to address the conservation and development of natural resources. During the early years emphasis was placed on water resources and soil erosion projects. More recently, the Council has placed a higher priority on community and rural economic development with sustainable natural resource based industry.
- Applegate Partnership - the Applegate Partnership is a community-based non-profit organization involving industry, conservation groups, natural resource agencies, and residents cooperating to encourage and facilitate the use of natural resource principles that promote ecosystem health and diversity.
- Hayfork Watershed Research and Training Center - promotion of the sustainability of a healthy community economy in healthy forests through research, training, education and economic development.
- Camino Real Ranger District - collaboration between USDA Forest Service, non-governmental organizations, and Tribal entities to restore forests to healthy conditions and support local economic activities.
- Communities by Choice - provides opportunities and resources to help citizens build healthy and sustainable communities in Kentucky and Central Applalachia.
- Community and Ecosystem Stewardship - assists rural communities, state, and federal agencies by facilitating and coordinating project planning and stewardship.
- Fort Lewis College Office of Community Services - The Office of Community Services at Fort Lewis College.
- Community-Based Collaborative Research Consortium - seeks to understand and assess collaborative efforts involving natural resource issues and community development.
- Uncompahgre Plateau Project - a website to inform and update the public about on-going efforts, information and educational opportunities, and to illustrate the Plateau's ecological, economic and social aspects.
