Do You Need Stewardship Contracting Assistance?

What Is Stewardship Contracting?

The Forest Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, and Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Department of the Interior, received authority to implement stewardship contracting and agreements in the 2003 appropriations act (Section 347 Omnibus Consolidated Appropriations Act of FY 1999, as amended by Section 323 of Public Law 108-7, 2003) ...More about Stewardship Contracting

Why Use Stewardship Contracting?

Stewardship contracts are intended to accomplish resource management with a focus on restoration. Proceeds from the sale of forest products or vegetation are applied to one or more local stewardship projects without further appropriation. You can trade goods (forest products) for services (thinning, restoration). Stewardship contracts are awarded based on past performance, work quality, experience, and benefits to the local community through the “Best Value” method. You can work with multiyear contracts for up to 10 years.

Why Use TEAMS To Help You Accomplish Stewardship Projects?

TEAMS can provide a quick response to meet your stewardship contracting and restoration project needs.

The process for developing and getting your stewardship project approved can be daunting, especially if it is the first one. Stewardship projects require collaboration with stakeholders in developing a project proposal, which is a new concept for many units. Because stewardship projects include restoration as a key component, you may not be able to accomplish the project by using traditional tools such as a timber sale contract. That is why stewardship often times adds unexpected complexity and additional impacts to your existing workload and staff—we understand your staff is already stretched thin.
