GIS Tool for Siting Helicopter Landings
This tool was developed to automate the process of determining landing sites for helicopters. This would work equally well for determining landings in ground based harvesting that require minimal site prep. The tutorial walks you through the steps of loading files and performing the analysis to extract areas on the ground that are flat, slope < 5%, and not in any watercourse.
The files used to create this tutorial were in the ARC interchange file format with the file extension .e00, but works with any available, appropriate GIS file format. This tutorial was developed with ARC 8.3. The type of file required to perform this analysis is a 3D TIN or raster of the landscape to be analyzed.
