Recent technological advances have provided drivers with the ability to control vehicle tire pressure while in motion. Central Tire Inflation (CTI) allows operators to match tire pressures to surface and loading conditions without delaying progress. As a result of testing supervised by San Dimas Technology & Development Center (SDTDC) for tractability evaluation and some experimentation by field units, concern has arisen over the potential for CTI-equipped fire engines to access steeper slopes than they can safely descend. In response to concerns voiced over CTI safety, SDTDC supervised an investigation of this dynamic at Fort Hunter-Liggett in June 1994.
