Trent, Andy ; Miller, Theron . 2008. Evaluation of the SPOT Satellite Messenger. 0825 2842. Missoula, MT: U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service, Missoula Technology and Development Center.
Forest Service field employees aren't always able to establish communications using cell phones, satellite phones, or Forest Service radios. The SPOT Satellite Messenger can reliably send emergency messages, even under a forest canopy. The device's primary disadvantage is that it can only send messages but cannot receive them. Field employees might find the device useful as a backup for emergency communications.
