Description: The Devil's Backbone project would improve and restore the only native shortleaf pine community located at LBL. Treatment would occur on approx. 3400 acres (updated 2/2011), including the TN State Natural Area. The SNA would increase to 1386 acres.

Location: UNIT - Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area All Units. STATE - Tennessee. COUNTY - Stewart. Project is between US Hwy 79 at the southern end and FS Rd 230 to the north. The area encompasses part of the Fort Henry hiking trails system. Project is in a Core Area and Panther Creek Watershed.

Description: Restore shortleaf pine on 34 acres damaged by the January 2009 ice storm. A site prep burn and planting of shortleaf pine are the activities needed to provide a supply of regenerating short leaf pine habitat.
