Description: The Devil's Backbone project would improve and restore the only native shortleaf pine community located at LBL. Treatment would occur on approx. 3400 acres (updated 2/2011), including the TN State Natural Area. The SNA would increase to 1386 acres.

The area encompasses part of the Fort Henry hiking trails system. Project is in a Core Area and Panther Creek Watershed.

Description: The 250 acre project area was severely impacted by the January 2009 ice storm. A salvage sale is needed to restore oak hickory and shortleaf pine forest ecosystems.
