In reference to item 3 under “Successful Attacks”, it should be clarified that at the time this publication was prepared there were insecticides available that could penetrate the bark and kill insects inside. These pesticides, however, and have been banned due to environmental concerns and are no longer used or available. Today, there are no insecticides or materials that can kill beetles once they are inside the tree.
