This reference is based on Region 1 Montana National Forest inventories conducted from 1993 to 1998.

*	Some forests were inventoried over a 2 to 3 year period; the survey date listed has been selected as the
	representative inventory year. Since the time of the field inventory, the Beaverhead and Deerlodge forests have
	merged to form the B-D National Forest.
**	Field location (also referred to as sample site or plot) on forest land: A timberland field location usually consisted
	of 5 to 7 sample points distributed on the sample acre; at each sample point a variable-radius main plot, 40 Basal
	Area Factor tally, and a 1/300-acre seedling/sapling subplot were established. A woodland field location consisted
	of one fixed-radius main plot (1/10- or 1/20-acre) divided into 4 quadrants, located on the sample acre; within each
	quadrant, a 1/300-acre seedling/sapling subplot was established. Only 2 woodland field locations were sampled
	on Montana National Forests; these plots were located on the Beaverhead NF, now part of the B-D.
