The Bitterroot National Forest administers a total of 1,580,550 acres* of land with 464,108 acres of this total extending into Idaho. Forty-seven percent of the total area administered by the Bitterroot is in a reserved designation such as Wilderness. There were 252 FIA sample locations within the Bitterroot National Forest, of which 226 locations were classified as forested, 20 locations were classified as either nonforest or water, and 6 locations were inaccessible.
