Tom
Preston is a research assistant/computer clerk for the
Economic Aspects of Forest Management on Public Lands unit of the
Rocky Mountain Research Station. He will also be assisting Mike
Niccolucci on projects for the Inventory and Monitoring Institute.
Tom was born in Great Falls, Montana
and grew up nearby in the town of Dutton. He earned an A.A.S. degree
in Electronics (with high honors) in May of 2000 at the University
of Montana College of Technology, Missoula. After graduation, he
immediately began working for Semitool (of Kalispell, MT) in the
Final Test department as an electronics technician. After working
for about six months in the Final Test department, Tom transferred
to the Customer Service department, where his responsibilities included
traveling to Semitool’s worldwide customer sites and installing
and maintaining Semitool products there. In the summer of 2001,
Tom was awarded a one year contract working at AMD Fab 30 in Dresden,
Germany, where he was responsible for installing, maintaining, training
German Semitool and AMD personnel, and aiding in development of
one of Semitool’s newest products, the Advanced Chemical Management
Unit. After the one-year contract in Germany, Tom enrolled at the
University of Montana in Missoula, and is majoring in Computer Science.
He is currently entering his senior year of Computer Science and
was hired by the Forest Service in May of 2003.
