Dan
Loeffler is an economics
assistant with the Economic Aspects of Forest Management on Public
Lands research work unit. He earned a B.A. degree in economics with
honors in December of 2002 at the University of Montana in Missoula.
In Spring of 2003, he entered graduate school at the University
of Montana to pursue a master's degree in economics. Long before
joining the Rocky Mountain Research Station in May of 2002, he spent
a considerable amount of time enjoying and participating in the
carnival-like atmosphere known as Grateful Dead Tour. At these remarkable
events, it was his observations of the seemingly purest market form
known to have taken place in modern times that led to his interest
in the fundamentals of economic decision-making, and the tradeoffs
necessarily involved in choice-making. Currently, his research interests
include public land revenue-sharing, wildland fire economics, and
forest biomass extraction cost estimation. He additionally provides
research support to his supervisors in the areas of econometric
modeling, statistical analysis and database development and management.
