	Research Silviculturist
	Conduct research on the ecology, growth, and management of Rocky Mountain forests, including the effects of fire and fuels management in Colorado, South Dakota and Arizona.
	Also manages the Manitou Experimental Forest and the Black Hills Experimental Forest.

Scientific Knowledge

Quantify the patterns of recruitment and mortality in natural and old-growth Engelmann spruce, lodgepole, ponderosa pine, and mixed conifer forests
Improve the ability to model regeneration and early stand dynamics in managed and unmanaged stands
Test new silvicultural techniques to manage aspen, spruce-fir, and ponderosa pine forests in the central Rockies and Southwest.
Use of dendrochronology to identify long-term climatic patterns and study disturbance events in subalpine and montane forests.
Develop knowledge and technology to support management alternatives for fire-prone and fire-dependent ecosystems in Colorado and the Black Hills

Solutions

Computer programs that can be used to visualize composition, growth, and proposed management alternatives in forested ecosystems.
