Assessing Watershed Condition

Our objective is to develop a consistent nationwide assessment of watershed condition for the nearly 4000 5th-level (10-digit) watersheds containing National Forest System (NFS) land in the contiguous 48 states. This assessment is broad-scale and relies on nationwide data sets. It is intended to inform decisions on where to focus future, more in-depth watershed assessment, which would in turn help in determining where watershed protection actions would be most effective. The assessment will rank 5th-level watershed condition by national forest, NFS region, and water resource region. Completion of this effort is expected by February of 2007.
