Welcome
Research Work Unit 4804's mission is to develop, validate, and transfer
scientifically credible methods of mathematical statistics for the
Forest Inventory and Analysis programs and related efforts to achieve
more timely and useful inventory and monitoring of forest lands..
Special Events:
Unifying Knowledge
for Sustainability in the Western Hemisphere 2004 (Monday 9/20/2004
- Friday 9/24/2004)
- Senior policy makers and scientists from a wide range of disciplines
will address the critical needs for unified information and knowledge
and how to obtain it to support monitoring for ecosystem sustainability
to assure a foundation for sustainable economic development. Participants
will cover technological advances and knowledge requirements across
disciplines to make the monitoring of ecosystem sustainability
both effective and efficient. The symposium emphasizes working
across disciplinary boundaries. Participants will be challenged
to think outside the box to advance monitoring science through
cross disciplinary presentations and discussion. As organizations
and governmental institutions conduct monitoring and inventory
activities it has become clear that much value can be lost when
these activities fail to contain common information or common
protocols. So, interoperability will be a common thread running
through the symposium. Results of innovative monitoring approaches
and applications of technology will be presented. The symposium
focuses on interests and activities in the Western Hemisphere.
