J. Greg Jones
is a research forester
with the Economic Aspects of Forest Management on Public Lands research
work unit. He received a B.S. degree in forest management from Iowa
State University in 1970, and an M.S. degree in forest economics in 1973.
He received a Ph.D. in forest economics with a minor in economics from
Iowa State University in 1976. In the summer of 1976 he joined the
faculty of the Forestry Department at Oklahoma State University as an
assistant professor and later was promoted to associate professor.
In 1981 he assumed the position of Research Forester with the then-named
Intermountain Research Station. In 1998, as an addition to his duties,
he became program leader for the Bitterroot Ecosystem Management Research
Project, a research partnership involving RMRS, Bitterroot National Forest,
Northern Region, and The University of Montana. He was named Project Leader
in 2004.
His personal research involves developing and testing methodology and
models for applying economic analysis at both project and landscape scales.
In recent years this work has been focused on the economics of ecosystem
management and planning, including the recent emphasis on fire and hazardous
fuel management.
