Decision-making and Expenditures on Large Wildland Fires

RMRS-4802, in collaboration with PNW-4865, is currently conducting a study focused on how suppression decisions are made and how those decisions might affect suppression expenditures. Through a series of in-depth interviews, we will:
• Develop a thorough description and understanding of Incident Management Teams, their operational environment, how decisions are made regarding allocation of suppression resources, and specific factors influencing suppression costs.
• Develop a thorough understanding of the role played by agency administrators/line officers in the incident decision-making process, their views regarding how decisions are made regarding allocation of suppression resources and specific factors influencing suppression costs.
• Develop a thorough description and understanding of the incentives or disincentives facing land managers and agency administrators that influence fire expenditures and resource outcomes.
