Description of project:
Coarse Filter Watershed
Analysis: Knowledge of existing watershed condition is a key component needed
for forest plan revision and other ongoing tasks. The Coarse Filter Watershed
Analysis is a relatively quick assessment procedure for estimating inherent
watershed sensitivity and current watershed condition. It uses readily
obtainable variables, which index sensitivity and disturbance. Sensitivity
variables are sediment delivery hazard and stream gradient. Disturbance
variables are grouped by roads, forest stand condition, grazing, and other
disturbances. The procedure can be used for landscape assessments; EAWS; TES
aquatic species conferencing and/or consultation. The analysis is intended to be
completed for 6th field (Hydrologic Unit Code) watersheds. The resulting index
of watershed condition can be used at various scales (i.e., forest wide,
sub-regional, regional, etc) for comparison and analysis purposes with
consideration of the limitations of the input variables.
