Dave's interest in birds and wildlife biology developed from bird watching trips with his father who worked for the Forest Service. Dave joined the Rocky Mountain Research Station, Albuquerque Lab, in 1994.
Dave is studying the effects of wildfires and fuel reduction on bird populations in the Rio Grande Valley. He also monitors the Gila Watershed for the endangered Southwestern Willow Flycatcher.
Dave was involved in a five-year study of bird migrations in the Rio Grande Valley and mist netted and banded birds for the research. He also spent three seasons monitoring Southwestern Willow Flycatcher nests in the Gila Valley.
