Interagency Research Grade Evaluation Guide
(RGEG) Steering Committee

On August 26, 1998, an interagency symposium of research and development scientists, science managers, and personnel specialists met at the National Wildlife Visitor's Center near Laurel, Maryland. The meeting referred to as the "RGEG Summit", was hosted by the U.S. Geoological Survey (USGS). The ``Summit'' presented RGEG stakeholders an opportunity to understand various agency approaches to evaluating Federal research positions. The meeting also provided a forum to discuss possible changes needed in the RGEG to meet changing organizational expectations of research scientists, and the changing nature of government science.

There was overwhelming agreement at the "Summit'' meeting to form an Interagency Steering Committee to work with the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to revise and update the Research Grade Evaluation Guide (RGEG). David Trauger, USGS serves as Chair of the Steering Committee. For a list of Charter Members and approaches to updating the RGEG, click on the Task Force Meeting Notes for December 1998.
