Research Interests

Synthesizing relevent research from trauma psychology, sports psychology, developmental psychology, positive psychology, neuroscience, and social science to improve safety & performance in individuals and organizations operating in high stress, high stakes environments. Adaptive and resilient leadership. Leadership reaction to events, especially Critical Incident Stress Management, and Accident Investigation. Mindfulness.

Past Research

The Forest Service averages 6 fatalities a year, while the interagency wildland fire community averages over 18 fatalities a year. This is unacceptable. Most business practices aimed at fixing this problem are rooted in science that is over 50 years old. Business does not practice what the science knows.
