Current Research

  • Identify and quantify the fine roots of aspen clones to determine below ground productivity by using molecular markers to generate DNA fingerprints.
  • Investigate the effects of air pollution, insect damage, and genomic loci on tree growth and plant physiology.
  • Investigate how forest management practices affect the genetic diversity and inbreeding of eastern white pine adults and the natural regeneration.

Research Interests

  • Identify patterns of insect movement in forest communities using stable isotopes.

Why This Research is Important

To better manage forests for sustainability, we must understand how changes in the environment and forest management practices affect the genetic diversity and productivity of the current and future generations of trees.

Education

  • Michigan State University, M.S. Forestry, 2002
