Short-rotation Woody Crops
Short-rotation Woody Crops

The Forest Service Biobased Products and Bioenergy research program will provide the science and technology to sustainably provide the quantities of wood needed for bioenergy and bioproducts, maintain and enhance forest health and productivity, reduce costs, and increase efficiency.  Biomass utilization helps offset treatment costs, can offset fossil fuel use, and promotes sustainable economies.  This research will help provide the science and technology to sustainably produce, manage, harvest, and convert woody biomass to cellulosic ethanol, other biofuels, chemicals, and other high-value products.  Taken together, these can reduce investor risk and significantly contribute to U.S. energy security, environmental, and economic goals.
