The
Northern Goshawk (Accipiter gentilis) is designated
as a Regional Forester Sensitive Species on the Allegheny, Finger
Lakes, Huron Manistee, Hiawatha, Ottawa, Chequemegon-Nicolet,
Superior and Chippewa National Forests. A
Conservation Assessment for the Northern Goshawk on these Lake
States National was initiated in 2000.
By definition, Conservation
Assessments summarize the best information available to define
what is needed to conserve a species. Description of
species life history, habitat, distribution and abundance,
population biology and a summary of potential threats all
provide background for subsequent preparation of a Conservation
Strategy.
During the fall of 2000, Lake
States National Forests drafted an outline
and began working with researchers to identify information
and references to be used in the Assessment. If you
have information you feel would be useful please contact:
