The White Mountain National Forest offers a variety of camping experiences: from family-friendly developed campgrounds, to popular backcountry sites, to the solitude of a Wilderness setting.

For those interested in a developed site, accessible by vehicle, there are 23 campgrounds and 3 group campgrounds scattered around the Forest, ranging in size from 7 to 176 sites. Some accept reservations, others are first-come, first-served. Some provide running water and flush toilets, others are more on the rustic side.
Several campgrounds can accommodate recreational vehicles, but none offers hook-ups, dump stations, or telephones.
Please contact our campground management company Pro-Sport, or one of our offices for further information about car camping opportunities on the White Mountain National Forest.
Wilderness and Backcountry Camping
Backpackers seeking a Wilderness or backcountry experience should consult one of the many trail guides available, and should be familiar with the Forest's Backcountry Camping Rules.
A list of backcountry camping facilities and other useful information can be found in the Forest publication OnFoot (download PDF files below).
