White Mountain National Forest- Recreational Activities

We try to keep this list as accurate as possible. However, a gate may be opened or closed temporarily based on weather conditions and resource requirements. Also, some road access is controlled by Maine or New Hampshire DOT (see notes).

Many Forest Roads are re-opened in winter for snowmobiling when there is enough snow cover. Those roads have their gates locked once the snow melts and until the roads dry sufficiently that resource damage will not occur. During the spring, consider all roads closed unless specifically noted as open. If you need more details about a particular road, please contact the appropriate Ranger District.
