Falling Spring

In addition to providing pretty scenery, the spring cascading out of the rock wall has provided power for two mills. The second, which still stands, was built in the late 1920’s. The water power was used to produce electricity, grind corn, and make shingles.

This site was settled before the Civil War. During the Civil War soldiers are believed to have camped in the area. The old log cabin which was the first home built on the site, is more than 100 years old. It was later used as a smoke house. The spring pond offers good fishing. A 650 foot trail leads along the edge of the lower pond. This day use facility is situated on the edge of a pond formed by a spring that falls from a rock wall. The area around the pond is open and grassy.
