Berryman Recreation Area

This is the site of a 1930’s Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Camp of the same name and is the starting point for the 24 mile Berryman National Recreation Trail. The western section of the trail also serves as part of the Courtois Section of the Ozark Trail. Horses are allowed in this Recreation Area.

Camping: There are 8 single sites, each with a picnic table, fire ring, and lantern post. Centrally located vault toilets. No drinking water. Some sites have hitching rails. Please scatter manure outside the site.

Picnicking: There are five picnic sites available, each with a table and pedestal grill. A pavilion with a large “rustic” grill is also available on a first come-first served basis. "Rustic" means the spaces on the grate are pretty far apart. There is no charge for day use, No charge for day use, but donations are welcome. Trail: The Berryman Trail traverses 24 miles of scenic Ozark countryside and is open for hiking, equestrian and mountain bike use. Bike riders must yield the right-of–way when encountering horseback riders. A small pond usually offers water for stock. Tying horses directly to trees is prohibited but hitching posts are available. A hitch line between trees using wide nylon “tree saver” straps with rope run between the straps is always a good idea. How to get here:

From Berryman, MO take Hwy 8 east about 2 miles; turn north onto County Road 207 (formerly FR2266).
Go about 1.5 miles. This is the starting point for the 24-mile Berryman Section of the Ozark Trail.
From Potosi, MO take Hwy 8 west 16 miles; turn north onto County Road 207 (formerly FR2266). Go about 1.5 miles. This is the starting point for the 24-mile Berryman Section of the Ozark Trail. Open year-round. No trash containers; please pack out all your trash. There are no camping or day use fees but donations are welcome. Open all year but fall, winter and spring are best. During temperate months, be prepared for biting insects, poison ivy and high temperatures. Be advised of hunting seasons. Avoid using the trail during excessively wet periods.
