Free Fishing and Camping June 10-11 on Mark Twain National Forest.

ROLLA, Mo. –Sat & Sun June 10-11, 2006 Mark Twain National Forest will offer two days of free day use and one free night of camping at ten campgrounds through southern and central Missouri.

The free night of camping is for Saturday night in unreserved campsites in these ten campgrounds: Big Bay (on Table Rock Lake in Stone County); Cobb Ridge (in the Chadwick Motorcycle and ATV Area in Christian County); Float Camp/Deer Leap (on the Current River in Ripley County); Greer Crossing (on the Eleven Point River in Oregon County;, Lane Spring (Phelps County); Loggers Lake (Shannon County); Markham Spring (Wayne County); North Fork (along the North Fork of the White River in Ozark County); Sutton Bluff (Reynolds County) and Watercress (on the Current River in Carter County).

Day use will also be free at all above sites on Sat & Sun June 10-11.

Anyone riding Chadwick or Sutton Bluff motorized trails will still need to purchase a trail permit.

The free night of camping is being offered in conjunction with Missouri’s Free Fishing Days, which are celebrated on the Saturday and Sunday following the first Monday in June. Free Fishing Days were established as a way to encourage people to try fishing so that they can find out or rediscover the enjoyment associated with fishing.

“Offering free camping and day use is a way to encourage people to enjoy the outdoors and to connect to the land,” said Mark Twain National Forest Supervisor Ronnie Raum. “People who recreate on National Forests are among our greatest supporters - a fee-free day is one way we can show appreciation and encourage others to enjoy the forest.”
