Snowmobiling

The Green Mountain National Forest is in partnership with the Vermont Association of Snow Travelers (VAST) on the operation and maintenance of snowmobile trails in the National Forest. These trails are part of the statewide snowmobile trail system. Trail maps are available at the Forest Service and from VAST. snowmobiling

Where is snowmobiling permitted?

You may ride snowmobiles on marked, designated trails posted open to snowmobiles as shown on VAST maps available from local clubs or National Forest offices.

Regulations

Your snowmobile must be legally registered, and a valid V.A.S.T. Trails Maintenance Assessment (TMA) decal must also be displayed next to the registration on the snowmobile. TMA’s can be purchased from the club’s membership chairperson or a local business that has been contracted to sell them for the club.

• Please allow two weeks to receive your registration.
• Riders must be over 16 years of age. If under 16, you must be under direct supervision of a person 18 years of age or older.
• You must have in possession a valid snowmobile safety course certificate from VT or other state/province.
