This section of the Appalachian/Long Trail, marked with white blazes, winds south from the trailhead through a hardwood forest and crosses numerous seasonal streams. This narrow, rocky trail travels along a ridge with gradual ups and downs. The old woods road that is crossed is the former stagecoach turnpike that connected Manchester, Bondville, and Peru. From the summit a short 0.1 miles spur trail to the west (right), leads to the peak. From here views of Manchester Valley, Mt. Equinox, and other peaks of the Taconic Mountains can be seen. Spruce Peak Shelter, a rustic cabin that sleeps sixteen, is another 0.4 miles south of the peak. Please practice Leave No Trace ethics, such as carry out what you carry in.
