Trail Description:

From the trailhead, the trail bears left off the logging road and ascends on an old woods road that forks at 0.75 miles. The New Boston Trail goes straight and climbs steadily to David Logan Shelter at 1.0 miles. Just above the shelter the trail passes a piped spring on the left and then reaches the Long Trail at 1.2 miles. Please practice Leave No Trace ethics, such as carry out what you carry in.

Directions:

From Rutland, follow Route 7 north, past a stoplight outside of town. Bear right onto East Pittsford Road, which turns into Chittenden Road at 3.3 miles. Continue for 2.7 miles on Chittenden Road to a three-way junction. Bear left at this junction and then go straight, to the right of the Civil War Monument, onto Mountain Top Road. Follow it for 1.8 miles and go straight past Mountain Top Ski Center, onto a dirt road. This road turns into Forest Road 99 at 0.6 miles. FR 99 is passable only by high clearance vehicles. Trailhead parking is at 1.3 miles on the left.
